Thru the mid to late 1920's and 30's wooden derricks were replaced with steel, standard derricks as they were faster to erect, could actually be dismantled and moved when necessary and had greater hook load capacity. Thousands upon thousands of old wooden derricks were simply jerked over with a tractor where they collapsed in a big pile and burned.
