Shale oil development in America has reduced our dependency on foreign imports, for the moment, has created tens of thousands of good paying jobs and generated billions of dollars of tax revenue on the state and local level.

It is NOT a miracle of existence, however. It is very expensive to extract, woefully unprofitable and would not exist but for low interest, abundant credit and massive amounts of debt.
