I agree with your conclusions about what is about to transpire. About the reactors that os just my guess but i see no other possibility they for sure have not restarted a reactor especially in an election year, so that leaves giving the order to produce the remaining as hard as you can safely to mitigation problems as much as possible at least until election is in the rear view mirror. Would not surprise me if maintenance is shifted towards after election either and then we will be in an even worse position come fall and winter. About reducing energy consumption, i dont see that as an option either that will work. As our society is based on ever growing global consumption economy in a finite world, we need to grow and controll inflation that grinds away at our debt. With inflation now out of control and rate hikes coming we are in for a world of hurt. Most people did borrow up to the nose on low interest rates in the 1-2% range and bought houses, and those who already owned borrowed on their fictive value increase and used it for consumption, cars, travel, etc. With interests increasing that can trigger a selloff and basically tumble the entire Swedish economy that basically only grown on borrowed money on houses for the last years. If we reduce energy consumption that probably leads to more layoffs and less work at a time we desperately need more of it and increased wages to meet increased living costs in form of interest payments and increased prices on food and other goods. I hope im wrong but i cant see this ending well for Europe with the escalating energy prices and at least in sweden people with debt to their noses. Oh government is doing all it can now to prop up the real estate market, normally you have to pay 15% of the total cost of the house from your own capital as in cash. Since prices have risen so high people not on the market cant afford to get those 15% and enter it. So government just launced a program where the state will provide 10% of that cash for "first time buyers" But thats the situation we are in now, if real estate market is affected everything will come tumbling down in Sweden so they will do whatever they can to prop it up as there is no other option. I think i have already mentioned the recent substidise of electric bills for home owners with tax money.

Hi, thanks for asking. I don't think most people realize yet what is about to come with energy prices and also food prices my guess is they will be more aware at autumn and next winter. One strange thing i noticed lately is our nuclear production is now on the same level as before we terminated one reactor in January 21. I have heard nothing about this, only thing i can assume is we are now running the remaining units harder. I wonder what will happen now during summer when they normally go offline in a scheduled fashion for maintenance. Before we had spare capacity so output could be maintained during this. I doubt it can now. About the EVs, ignoring capital costs they are starting to look less economical even only considering operation costs due to our energy price levels. People would of course argue "charge during night" but that meens you dont have a fixe rate subscription and you will then pay nosebleed rates during the day for all electricity your house consumes. I think what will be the biggest kick in the nuts will be if Putin follows trough and demands payment for gas in rubles. Some countries might refuse and if russia dont feel like giving it away and trottles down on export so volumes only matched those who paid in rubles it will start to get interesting. Energy prices will scyrocket and there will not be enough for EU so some will have to make due without it. The poorest i guess. Also our industries will start to lose competitiveness and with that starts the downfall of Europe. Us will be able to sell LNG for whatever price they choose to us, but it wont be enough and it will damage us in same way as above. Add to that we are no longer self sufficient when it comes to food. And in Swedens case then if we were to close our borders we can not produce enough food, nor enough energy any longer. If this materialises it will be an ugly date with reality that will pop a lot of bubbles. Economical and fantasy land ones.

That is the way it used to be before the grand plans of the EU, Sweden had a very sane energy policy, hydro in the north, some transmission towards middle and south and nuclear provided base load for the south as we have no major rivers there. This lead to a well supplied, stable market and we han low energy costs compared to rest of europe and plenty of it so we could attract industry. (We still do but that will now cost us dearly, or the tax payer that is) Today when we have terminated nuclear in the south we have created a lot of problems, we don't have enough transmission capacity from the nort to south any more, it is frequently maxed out and south still have issues and are forced to import and run the oil burner. We cant utilize all of our import capacity in the south as we dont have enough base load to balance the grid there any more. Unfortunately building wind on the other side of the border wont help, as northern Europe has the same weather usually. But this is exactly what is beeing done it will lead to more energy production when not needed and lower product prices for wind operators. I suspect many of them will face same issues as shale operators did during the last boom cycle. But i think the politicians have finally understood the mess they have created, they wont acknowledge of course it will still be putins fault. But they will probably start to reclassify nuclear as green and perhaps even gas in the future and by moving the goalposts in the quiet all those green agenda 2030-50 whatever can be met without any real practical change, and more important no blame dealt out.
